Even if the engine of 7 liter V8 model of Z06 manages to deliver 512 HP, nothing less, Geigercars made so as to obtain 542 HP.
The Germans have not said anything about performance, but if we think that 512 HP are enough good car for the series to reach 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds, that means almost 600 HP should make a visible difference.

iPhone 5′s super-slim dimensions may cause shipping delays

21 juillet 2011

iPhone 5's super-slim dimensions may cause shipping delays dans apps iphone5delay

The iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4 — so much so that it could cause delays in production. That’s according to component suppliers who apparently spoke to The Wall Street Journal.

We took it for granted that the iPhone 5 would be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, but the possibility of manufacturing delays is a new rumour.

The chairman of Taiwanese company Hon Hai, which assembles Apple’s gadgets, has already admitted that the slender nature of the existing iPhone and iPad make it difficult to produce units sufficiently quickly. The problem is that it’s difficult to cram so many components into such thin devices.

If the iPhone 5 is indeed thinner than the iPhone 4, then Hon Hai will have an even harder time of it.

The Wall Street Journal’s sources also claimed there will be an 8-megapixel camera in the iPhone 5. Sony chief Howard Stringer has already said that his company would provide 8-megapixel sensors for Apple’s device.

The rumoured delays don’t bode well for the 7 September release date we’ve been hoping for, but it isn’t out of the question. It’s possible that the phone might be announced on that day but we may have to wait a while before it arrives in stores.

Apple App Store hits 15 billion downloads, not all of them Angry Birds

Apple App Store hits 15 billion downloads, not all of them Angry Birds dans apps appstore15billion1

Apple’s Cupertino HQ today echoes with the sound of chest-bumping and bro-fisting — the Apple App Store has hit the 15 billion downloads mark.

The Store now contains more than 425,000 apps, and over 100,000 of those are native iPad apps. There are now more than 200 million iOS devices in use around the world. That works out an average of 75 apps downloaded per device.

In a statement issued today, Apple’s senior vice-president of worldwide product marketing (nice title) Philip Schiller said: « In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen.

« Thank you to all of our amazing developers. »

The statement also says that Apple has paid out over $2.5 billion (£1.6 billion) to developers.

It’s a major milestone for sure, but it’s not all sunshine and roses for Apple’s App Store — very recently Jobs and co. were denied an injunction against Amazon that would have stopped the online bookseller from using the term ‘Appstore’. Apple argued that letting Amazon use the term would cause confusion.

Are you hopelessly hooked on iOS apps (we’re particularly partial to a spot of Angry Birds, oh, and Cut the Rope. And Infinity Blade and Trainyard), or do you prefer Google’s little green robot? Are you packing more apps than average? Let fly in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.

Rumor: CryEngine 3 readying for Xbox 720 KINECT?

17 juin 2011

It may just be that the CryEngine 3 could not only be supporting Kinect, but also readies itself for the next generation of Xbox consoles. In an interview with Develop, CEO Cevat Yerli of CryTek stated that: “We are expanding in many ways, and some of that is more announced than others. Kinect is major driver for future platforms as well, so Kinect support is important. Having basic Kinect support in the CryEngine is one thing, but I’m talking about really supporting it deeply. CryEngine is going to have deep [Kinect] support.”
‘Really supporting it deeply’, is what the man says. First off, that’s great news! From the recent EA announcements that their next sports games (Fifa, Madden NFL, Tiger Woods) we can already see shared excitement for Kinect in the market. But, what does really deeply actually mean? Well, coming from a man that is promoting his CryEngine it could mean a number of things, but as the CryEngine is known for having great physics (and wonderful graphics) I think this could mean is that you and I – as a gamer – would be fully able to interact with all the advanced physics that are implemented in the CryEngine (the CryEngine is famous for. Checkout the video below to get an impression of what the CryEngine can do with the virtual world.
CryEngine 3 Physics
*updated, thanks Nivnivon666 via comments.
Now, imagine yourself standing in stream of mud in the middle of a game: the mud is crawling all around you in the game and you’d have to find a way out. It’s not your game character that stands in the mud (on screen) it’s you, your movement is being mimicked by Kinect and translated to the virtual world on screen. In other words, you can be part of that world of natural interaction with Xbox Kinect.
CryEngine reported in development for Xbox 720*
*Xbox720 is an abbreviation to name the Xbox that comes after the Xbox 360, allegedly existing in some raw form still today.
In other news, information was detailed to (VG) by “a high-ranking industry source at Crytek, who stated that TimeSplitters 4 is currently being demonstrated internally, is being built with CryEngine 3, and was being shown privately in video form at E3 2011.”  The source reported to VG that the graphics on TimeSplitters 4 are noticeably improved over current generation technology, with the next generation of DirectX effects having a huge impact on the visuals. Crytek believes that the game – and CryEngine 3 itself – will be seen as the cornerstone of next-generation development.  Even though we cannot check the source, let’s assume it to be true for now.
Adding Kinect support (which we know is there focus), together with the notion of ‘cornerstone of next-generation development’ both being focus points of CryEngine sounds like they’re up to something. What do you think it could be? Is CryTek the first one to deliver next generation Kinect games with its CryEngine 3? Would certainly fit Microsoft’s strategy of going Kinect from now on.

Apple Store turns 10 this week: Is iPhone 5 the secret new gadget?

23 mai 2011

The Apple Store is 10 years old this week, but what is the mysterious hardware that Apple is launching to celebrate? Sealed orders have arrived at every Apple Store for new hardware to be unveiled this weekend, marking a decade of iPods, Geniuses and insane openings. Could it be the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5?

A variety of staff will be working overnight on Saturday into Sunday, when all staff are required to attend a meeting, Boy Genius Report reports.

The secrecy has reached George Smiley levels: staff have to lock their phones away and sign a contract not to tell anyone what’s happening, black curtains are being put up around the stores, and the new hardware is being kept under lock and key. Even the training material downloaded from Apple headquarters is in a password-protected folder that can’t be opened until Sunday.

The first Apple Store opened 10 years ago in Tysons Corner, Virginia — it dropped the apostrophe in the early 1970s, grammar fans — on 19 May 2001. The Regent Street branch in London was the first in Europe.

There are now more than 300 Apple Stores around the world, including four in China. The world’s largest is right here in London — click here for our tour of the Covent Garden Apple Store. There’s even one in the Louvre, which prompted us to suggest some other unusual places Apple could set up shop.

Apple Stores are famous for their clean minimalist design, the Genius Bar for customer support, and the wooden tables with computers and devices out for you to use. As part of the minimalist approach, Apple did away with tills in 2006, and now each member of staff uses a special iPod touch to take your payment. It’s still « like working at McDonald’s », though.
